To the Members and Friends of the Swampscott Church of Spiritualism:
This weekend is surely a test to all of us as the good weather hits and we all yearn for the physical connection with our friends and family, especially when Memorial Day is typically a celebratory weekend filled with cookouts and fellowship. Like you, we know that our hearts yearn for personal connection with all of those we love; however, discipline and love for those with underlying health conditions continues to drive the decisions we make for the church. It is certainly not easy, but it is worthwhile and necessary. With that being said, we would like to inform you that we are going to continue to keep the church closed throughout phase I of Governor Baker’s reopening plan. In the mean time, we will be working closely with the town of Swampscott so that when we do reopen, we are able to do it safely, properly, and sufficiently. So, please continue to bear with us, and we will keep you updated as the progress unfolds.
We understand that this news might be a little disappointing to some, but also a relief to others. As we are a spiritual family, we are choosing not to ask you to choose whether to come to church or not. While safety is still a major concern for many, we are joining our brothers and sisters of faith in Swampscott and choosing to keep the building closed for the well-being of all of our loved ones. Given the new guidelines and safety precautions, we are going to make sure that we are prepared, clean, and can properly handle a reopening that will ensure the safety of our congregation. This decision brings us right back to Principle seven where we are affirming the “moral responsibility of the individual.” We feel that if we open, we are responsible for everyone who walks through the doors of our church. In that recognition of our faith, we will remain closed but continue to provide opportunities to connect on our website.
Please remember to check out our members’ page and listen to the many meditations and lectures that are all posted. Also, please stay tuned as we are planning some upcoming online courses. Until we feel best prepared to reopen, we will continue to provide spiritual content for our membership in the best ways we know how. We look forward to the day we do reopen, but until then, we continue to send you healing and light.
